about

This song is about the stubbornness of belief--even justified belief--in the face of doubts and uncertainty, and also about the importance of understanding that 'belief' and 'doubt' are not antonyms.

There's a lyric poster available--designed by Rory and printed at a local print shop in his neighborhood on Chicago's north side--that features one of the lines from this song.

lyrics

If we could see through the window
Read what's been written on that page
If we could take what we've been given
Would that change how we misbehave
If we'd borrowed what we've stolen
Could we pay it back in full
See I'm not getting any younger
And I'm starting to feel that pull

I'm tired of trading my dreams
For real life

Now just because I am a dreamer
That doesn't mean I am asleep
And if I give up on fighting
That doesn't make me weak
If you could be forgiven
For all the things that came before
If you truly knew, for just one minute, that you were loved
Would you settle that score

I'm tired of trading my dreams
For real life

I told you
I found it out
But I still believe
I told you
I have my doubts
But I still believe

Someone lied to you and told you
That you have all the time in the world
No, we're all gonna go
Belief is not the same thing as being certain
See, I wonder, but that doesn't mean
That I don't know

I told you
I found it out
But I still believe
I told you
I have my doubts
But I still believe
